Dave Elston to speak about “A Year in the Grand Grand Canyon” at Friends of Pine Library meeting
Friends of Pine Library are hosting local author Dave Elston at their meeting at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 24, 2018. The public is welcome. Light refreshments will be served.
Mr. Elston’s will talk about his book, “A Year in the Grand Grand Canyon”.
He first hiked the Grand Canyon in the early 1970’s. As an avid explorer and certified Wilderness First Responder, he eventually set a personal goal to spend a year, a few days and nights at a time, exploring the Grand Canyon. Today, Dave is a Preventive Search and Rescue Ranger at the Grand Canyon and a volunteer with the Chistopher-Kohls Fire Department in Christopher Creek, Arizona.
“A Year in the Grand Canyon” is a poignant, page-turning window into one person’s life-long passion to experience everything he could about the enigmatic Grand Canyon. Hike with this new author when, at an early age, he finds frozen human remains just off a popular trail. Share the difficulty and emotions of leading a large group of young hikers during a blinding and unpredicted snowstorm. Experience his first major hike and how poorly he did. Benefit from his insights and recommendations for those hoping to accomplish the arduous but increasingly popular rim-to-rim hike. Grab a seat for a rafting trip on the Colorado River, and learn some of the things you can witness and experience at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Learn about a few of his favorite remote hikes well away from the crowds. Enjoy the interesting and unique historical information woven throughout the book, and make use of his trail-tested lessons learned on clothing and equipment choices. This book is a “must-read” for anyone intending to visit or hike the Grand Canyon. (Published by Vishnu Temple Press)
The book will be available for purchase.
